Dep Art Gallery è lieta di presentare la mostra “Gerold Miller. Opere”, prima personale dell’artista tedesco ospitata nella sede milanese della galleria, dal 30 settembre al 20 dicembre. Curata da Frank Boehm, la mostra propone una selezione di 20 opere create appositamente per l’occasione, che testimoniano gli sviluppi più recenti della produzione artistica di Miller.
Le opere di Gerold Miller sfuggono alle semplici classificazioni e mettono in discussione la nostra visione e comprensione. Definire il suo linguaggio espressivo come una forma ridotta potrebbe essere appropriato in senso generale, ma allo stesso tempo fuorviante. Miller non ripropone processi di astrazione tendenti alla concentrazione, già ampiamente sviluppati nel primo modernismo. Allo stesso modo, la Konkrete Kunst (Arte Concreta), a lui più vicina per epoca e contenuti, non rappresenta un punto di riferimento.
Già durante gli studi negli anni ‘80, egli sviluppò il proprio lavoro in gruppi e serie fondati su una base concettuale radicale, concedendosi talvolta momenti di intuizione. Seguendo le linee evolutive delle opere risultanti, si riconosce una varietà e una notevole apertura nei confronti dei principi da lui stesso imposti. Le opere di Gerold Miller, come più volte descritto, si collocano al confine tra immagine e corpo. Lavorando senza romanticismo, egli utilizza tecniche artistiche classificabili come scultura. Al tempo stesso, i formati e le installazioni delle sue opere, così come la sua attenzione al margine e alla cornice, rimandano alla tradizione della pittura su tavola.
Come spettatori, assistiamo a un paradosso: attraverso opere posizionate nello spazio con estrema precisione, interamente radicate nel reale e nel presente, da un lato possiamo rievocare l’intera storia pittorica della nostra cultura, dall’altro osservare uno spazio visivo indefinito e senza confini.
La mostra presenta opere recenti appartenenti alla serie di lavori da parete set, instant vision, Profil (profilo) e Verstärker (amplificatore), opera posizionata liberamente nello spazio. Ideata in stretta collaborazione con l’artista, la mostra sarà accompagnata dalla pubblicazione di un volume bilingue italiano-inglese contenente tutte le opere esposte e un testo del curatore Frank Boehm, che delinea in modo esaustivo lo sviluppo del lavoro di Gerold Miller.

Dep Art Gallery presents Gerold Miller. Works, the German artist's first solo exhibition at the gallery, in Milan from September 30 to December 20. Curated by Frank Boehm, the exhibition features a selection of 20 works created specifically for the occasion, showcasing the latest developments in Miller's artistic production.
Gerold Miller's artistic work defies simple classification and challenges our vision and understanding. To describe his mode of expression as a reduced formal language would be accurate in a general sense, but at the same time points in the wrong direction. Miller does not repeat processes of abstraction towards concentration, as was sufficiently achieved in early modernism. At the same time, Konkrete Kunst (Concrete Art), which is closer in terms of time and content, is not a point of reference either.
Already during his studies in the 1980s, he developed his work in groups and series based on a radical conceptual foundation, allowing himself moments of intuition. Following the lines of development of the resulting works, one recognises a diversity and outstanding openness in the context of his self-imposed principles. Gerold Miller's works, as has been described many times, operate at the boundary between image and body. Working without romanticism, he uses artistic techniques that can be classified as sculpture. At the same time, the formats and installations of his works, as well as his focus on the edge and the frame, refer to the tradition of panel painting.
As viewers, we experience a paradox: through works that are very precisely positioned in space and entirely in the real and the present, we can, on the one hand, recall the entire pictorial history of our culture, while on the other hand, we look into an indeterminate and open space of vision.
The exhibition presents recent works from the wall-mounted groups set, instant vision, Profil (profile) and the work Verstärker (amplifier), which is positioned freely in the space. Conceived in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition will be accompanied by the publication of a bilingual Italian-English volume containing all the artworks on display and a text by curator Frank Boehm, which comprehensively outlines the development of Gerold Miller's work.
