Dep Art Gallery celebra il ventesimo anniversario della sua attività con una mostra che è insieme bilancio e manifesto. Non una retrospettiva, ma una ricognizione visiva: ventisei artisti, ventisei mostre personali che hanno segnato la storia della galleria, ciascuno rappresentato da un'opera scelta a testimoniare la coerenza di un percorso.
L'allestimento segue una logica spaziale e narrativa precisa. Ad aprire il percorso espositivo è un'opera di Mario Nigro, artista che il fondatore e direttore Antonio Addamiano scelse di esporre in occasione dell’inaugurazione della galleria 20 anni fa, nel 2006, nella sede di Via Giuriati. La mostra continua al piano interrato dove si dispiega la storia delle origini: da Alberto Gianquinto a Pino Pinelli, ma anche Salvo, Alberto Biasi ed Emilio Scanavino, così, in ordine cronologico, la galleria ripercorre i suoi primi anni attraverso le opere di artisti che ne hanno definito l'identità. Non è casuale che Pinelli chiuda questo piano: la sua personale fu l'ultima mostra nella sede storica della galleria, un congedo e insieme una soglia.
Al piano superiore il racconto continua: nel 2015 la galleria inaugurò la nuova sede di Via Comelico con una mostra di Turi Simeti, e da lì prosegue il percorso, da Piero Fogliati a Gerold Miller, passando per Alighiero Boetti, Wolfram Ullrich, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Regine Schumann, Imi Knoebel, a mostrare come la ricerca si sia evoluta senza mai perdere il filo: quello di un'arte che interroga la percezione, lo spazio, la materia, la memoria.
Alcune di queste mostre sono state possibili grazie a collaborazioni con curatori di straordinaria competenza e sensibilità, con i quali si è costruito nel tempo un rapporto di fiducia e stima reciproca. La condivisione di una visione, di relazioni, di studio, di rischio intellettuale è ciò che ha orientato ogni scelta in questi vent'anni, e continua a farlo.
Dep Art Gallery is celebrating its twentieth anniversary with an exhibition that is equal parts reflection and statement of intent. Not a retrospective, but a living visual record: twenty-six artists, twenty-six solo shows that have defined the gallery over the years, each represented by a single work that speaks to the consistency of a vision.
The installation follows a precise spatial and narrative logic. The exhibition opens with a work by Mario Nigro, the artist that founder and director Antonio Addamiano chose to present at the gallery's inaugural show twenty years ago, in 2006, at its first home on Via Giuriati. The exhibition continues on the lower floor, where the story of the origins unfolds: from Alberto Gianquinto to Pino Pinelli, alongside Salvo, Alberto Biasi and Emilio Scanavino, the gallery traces its early years in chronological order through the works of artists who defined its identity. It is no coincidence that Pinelli closes this floor: his solo exhibition was the last show held at the gallery's historic venue, a farewell and, at the same time, a threshold.
On the upper floor the story continues: in 2015, the gallery opened its new space on Via Comelico with an exhibition by Turi Simeti. From there the journey resumes, from Piero Fogliati to Gerold Miller, by way of Alighiero Boetti, Wolfram Ullrich, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Regine Schumann and Imi Knoebel, tracing how the gallery's research has evolved without ever losing its thread: an art that questions perception, space, matter and memory.
Several of these exhibitions were made possible through collaborations with curators of extraordinary expertise and sensitivity, with whom a relationship of mutual trust and esteem has been built over time. The commitment to vision, to relationships, to study, to intellectual risk is what has guided every decision over these twenty years, and it still does.
