Brussels Expo
For the next edition of Art Brussels, we have conceived a dialogue between the works of Carlos Cruz-Diez (Caracas,1923 - Paris, 2019), Alberto Biasi (Padua, 1937), Wolfram Ullrich (Würzburg, 1961) and Ludwig Wilding (Grünstadt 1927 - Buchholz in der Nordheide 2010), in order to pay tribute to four artists who have marked milestones in the development of optical and kinetic art.
The exhibition pays tribute to Carlos Cruz-Diez, Alberto Biasi and Ludwig Wilding, three artists who were among the participants in the renowned exhibition 'The Responsive Eye' at the MoMa in New York in 1965. By adding Wolfram Ullrich's work, we want to establish a connection between different generations of artists dealing with optical illusion, as well as the physical involvement of the viewer.
Since the foundation of the gallery, optic-kinetic art, initially only with Alberto Biasi, was one of the first researches proposed and never abandoned, followed a few years later by the introduction of Ludwig Wilding. Over the years, we have broadened our 'optical' horizon and today present important international positions of Optical Art with Wolfram Ullrich, and, in particular, with Carlos Cruz-Diez.
A special project is dedicated to Regine Schumann (Goslar, 1961) a room displaying her works that react surprisingly well when subjected to black light.
