Art Cologne 2026

For the 2026 edition of Art Cologne, the exhibition project of Dep Art Gallery is centered on light and colour as the driving forces of artistic experience, bringing together Regine Schumann and Salvo in a dialogue between two distinct yet complementary approaches. In both practices, light becomes colour and defines mental and temporal spaces, shaping how the viewer perceives and emotionally responds to the work. The project fosters awareness of how we see and how we feel a work of art, encouraging a slow and attentive viewing in which chromatic shifts, reflections, and atmospheres unfold gradually.

Two distinct yet equally grounded approaches to light. In Salvo’s work, light takes form through painting. It unfolds within the image, structured by colour, memory, and imagination. His landscapes, defined by bold tones and essential compositions, evoke times of day and emotional atmospheres through chromatic intensity. Light is not represented as a natural phenomenon but constructed as a pictorial condition, held within the surface and capable of suggesting duration, climate, and inner states.
In Regine Schumann’s work, light takes form through material and space. It inhabits fluorescent surfaces, expands into the environment, and shifts according to the viewer’s position and the surrounding conditions. Her installations and sculptures in fluorescent plexiglass react to varying light sources, from natural daylight to ultraviolet illumination, continuously transforming their chromatic presence. Colour becomes experiential, engaging perception in real time and extending beyond the object into the surrounding space.

In their juxtaposition, a quiet and precise dialogue emerges between two autonomous yet resonant visions, where light is both constructed and experienced, imagined and encountered. The works invite the viewer into a perceptual field in which colour acts both as a visual phenomenon and as an emotional trigger, activating a layered experience that oscillates between observation and sensation.
