Dep Art Out presenta Formulare il processo, una serata evento dedicata all’artista Valerie Krause. Sabato 30 agosto, dalle 19:00 alle 21:00, il suggestivo trullo—sede estiva della Dep Art Gallery di Milano—accoglierà un’installazione site‑specific costituita da elementi in terracotta e un cilindro in alluminio perforato. L’allestimento nasce da una sensibile lettura dell’architettura circolare dello spazio e dalla sua originaria funzione di rifugio rurale temporaneo.
Per la sala centrale, Krause dispone a pavimento forme concentriche modellate in argilla: cerchi che collidono, si fratturano e generano frammenti, quasi fossero cocci staccati dalla struttura conica del tetto. Questa “migrazione” di forme verso sud — verso l’alcova ricavata da un cono minore — allude a un processo di stratificazione e metamorfosi continua.
Sul lato opposto, l’artista contrappone un cilindro verticale ottenuto arrotolando una sottile lastra di alluminio traforata a mano. I fori, praticati seguendo un gesto spontaneo, formano una costellazione di punti dalla configurazione imprevedibile, evocando la candela, ovvero la falsa cupola di chiusura del trullo.
Il dialogo con il trullo scaturisce da risonanze materiche e strutturali: l’architettura “a secco” in pietra—basata su un pattern essenziale di blocchi autosostenuti—trova un’eco nella logica costruttiva della scultura, mentre l’argilla, materia prima della terra, e l’alluminio, metallo tecnologico, descrivono una polarità fra tradizione e contemporaneità. L’installazione mette così in evidenza quell’energia spaziale che l’artista ricerca: «l’assenza che dà forma, le sovrapposizioni, i punti in cui si verificano tensioni, le relazioni tra paesaggio e costruzioni geometriche e la visualizzazione del processo che determina l’opera».
Valerie Krause (Krefeld, 1976) si diploma nel 2007 all’Accademia di Düsseldorf con Didier Vermeiren. Nel 2008 vince ad Art Cologne l’“Audi Art Award for New Talents”, cui segue una personale all’Artothek di Colonia. Ha ottenuto borse di studio dalla Kunststiftung NRW, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung e Stiftung Kunstfonds. Spazio e movimento sono temi centrali della sua pratica, declinata fra scultura e fotografia. Ha esposto con gallerie quali Rolando Anselmi (Berlino, Roma), Greta Meert (Bruxelles) e Florit/Florit (Madrid, Palma), e in istituzioni come Museum Kunstpalast (Düsseldorf), Martin‑Gropius‑Bau (Berlino), Bundeskunsthalle (Bonn) e Köln Skulptur #7. Le sue opere figurano in collezioni pubbliche, fra cui Sammlung Zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Villa La Collina, Cadenabbia) e Sammlung des Landes NRW.
Dep Art Out è un luogo fuori dall’ordinario dove l’arte si manifesta in modo innovativo. Il trullo, icona della Puglia riconosciuta in tutto il mondo, diventa uno spazio espositivo extra‑ordinario immerso nelle campagne tra Ceglie Messapica e Martina Franca.

Dep Art Out presents Formulating the Process, an evening event devoted to the artist Valerie Krause. On Saturday 30 August, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, the evocative trullo—Dep Art Gallery’s summer venue in Apulia—will host a site-specific installation composed of terracotta elements and a hand-pierced aluminium cylinder. The display grows out of a sensitive reading of the circular architecture and the structure’s original role as a temporary rural shelter.
In the central room Krause lays out concentric, hand-modelled clay forms across the floor: rings that collide, fracture and scatter, as if segments had slipped from the conical roof above. This gentle “migration” of forms toward the southern niche—a small secondary cone—suggests stratification and ongoing metamorphosis.
Opposite, the artist sets a vertical cylinder made by rolling a thin sheet of aluminium that she has punctured by hand. The points, drilled in an intuitive rhythm, become a field of stars; once curled, the perforated skin takes on an unpredictable configuration that recalls the candle-like keystone (the false dome) crowning a traditional trullo.
The dialogue with the trullo turns on material and structural resonances: dry-laid stone, built from an essential pattern of self-supporting blocks, meets the constructive logic of sculpture; raw earth (terracotta) faces off with a technological metal (aluminium), mapping a polarity between tradition and contemporaneity. In bringing these forces together, the installation foregrounds the spatial energy Krause seeks: “the absence that gives shape, the overlaps, the points where tensions occur, the relations between landscape and geometric constructions, and the visualization of the process that brings the work into being.”
Valerie Krause (Krefeld, 1976) graduated from the Düsseldorf Academy in 2007 under Didier Vermeiren.
